Fast Backups Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I start making backups?
Open the mod's backup menu (default keybind varies by installation) and select 'Create Backup' to take your first snapshot. The mod will capture your current world state; subsequent backups will only save what's changed since the last one.
Why is my first backup so large?
The initial backup must capture your entire world to establish a baseline for future incremental saves. After this, each new backup will be much smaller since only modifications are stored.
Can I restore to any backup I've made?
Yes, you can restore to any snapshot in your backup history through the mod's restore menu. Select the backup date/time you want and confirm; your world will load from that point.
Do backups work in multiplayer or just single-player?
Fast Backups Mod is designed for single-player worlds. Multiplayer server backups require server-side configuration and may not work the same way as the client-side mod.
How much disk space do I actually need?
You need enough space for your full world size plus incremental changes across all backups you plan to keep. Since only changes are stored after the first backup, multiple snapshots take far less space than traditional full-world copies.
What happens if I delete a backup in the middle of my history?
Deleting a backup removes that snapshot, but you can still restore to any other backup you've kept. The mod's Git-based system handles this without corrupting your remaining backups.
Can I set backups to happen automatically?
Yes, the mod includes automatic backup scheduling. Configure the interval (such as after a set amount of playtime) in the mod settings, and backups will trigger without manual input.
Will backups slow down my game?
Backups run in the background and are optimized to minimize performance impact. You may notice a brief pause when a backup completes, but gameplay should remain smooth.
Are backups lost if I update the mod?
Your backup files are stored separately from the mod itself, so updating the mod will not delete your snapshots. Always back up your backup folder before major updates as a precaution.
Can I move my backups to another computer?
Yes, you can copy your backup folder to another installation of the mod on a different computer. The Git-based format is portable, so your snapshots will be accessible on the new system.
