FamiliarsLib Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
Do I need to install FamiliarsLib separately or does it come with Alshanex's Familiars?
FamiliarsLib is a required dependency that must be installed alongside Alshanex's Familiars—it won't work without it. Check your mods folder to confirm both are present.
What's the difference between FamiliarsLib and Alshanex's Familiars mod?
FamiliarsLib provides the core systems and tools that power familiar mechanics, while Alshanex's Familiars is the content mod that adds actual familiars to catch and use. FamiliarsLib also lets other modders build their own familiar content on top of it.
Can I use FamiliarsLib with other mods besides Alshanex's Familiars?
Yes—FamiliarsLib is compatible with Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks and works as a foundation for any mod that adds custom familiars or sound-based spells. Check individual mod descriptions to confirm compatibility.
My familiar won't obey commands—what am I doing wrong?
Make sure your familiar is fully tamed and bonded to you, and that you're using the correct interaction method for that familiar type. Untamed or low-bond familiars won't respond reliably to commands.
Do I need a familiar bed for my familiar to level up?
A familiar bed is not strictly required for leveling, but it provides rest and recovery benefits that speed up power growth. Familiars can still gain experience without one, just more slowly.
Will FamiliarsLib cause lag in my modpack?
No—FamiliarsLib is designed to be lightweight and efficient, so it shouldn't cause noticeable performance issues even in large modpacks.
Can I create custom familiars or spells with FamiliarsLib?
Yes, if you're a modder—FamiliarsLib provides the API and tools to create custom familiars, familiar beds, storage blocks, and sound-based spells. Players cannot create these without coding knowledge.
What happens if I remove FamiliarsLib from my world?
Your familiars and related blocks will likely break or disappear since FamiliarsLib handles all the core systems they depend on. Don't remove it from an active world.
How do sound-based spells work with FamiliarsLib?
Sound-based spells are triggered or enhanced by specific sounds or audio cues in-game, and FamiliarsLib provides the framework for modders to create these spell types. The exact mechanics depend on which mod adds the spells.
Is FamiliarsLib required if I only want to use Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks?
Only if you want to use sound-based spell features that depend on FamiliarsLib's systems; standard spellcasting in Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks works independently.
