Fabric Tailor Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I open the skin selection menu?
Press the K key by default to open the Fabric Tailor skin menu. If K is already bound to something else, you can rebind it in the mod's keybind settings.
How do I change my skin with a command?
Use /skin followed by a player name, a URL, or a local file path. The mod also supports subcommands for clearing your skin or setting a cape.
Can I use a skin from a URL?
Yes, paste a direct link to a skin PNG file into the menu or use it with the /skin command. The URL must point directly to the image file, not a webpage hosting it.
Why does my skin look like a default Steve or Alex to other players?
Players without the mod only see vanilla skins, so any HD or custom skin you set through Fabric Tailor may appear as a default to them. Only other players running the mod will see your custom skin.
How do I set a different skin for each world?
Fabric Tailor stores skin settings per world, so changing your skin while in one world won't affect others. Just open the menu or run /skin in each world and set what you want there.
Can I use high-resolution skins?
Yes, the mod supports HD skins, but only players who also have the mod installed will see them at full resolution. Vanilla players will see a downscaled or default version.
How do I add a cape?
The mod automatically fetches your cape if one is available for your account, or you can upload a custom cape from local storage through the menu. Cape visibility follows the same rules as skins.
Does this mod work on servers where I'm not an operator?
Yes, skin changes are client-side, so you can change your own skin on any server. However, other players will only see your custom skin if they also have the mod installed.
Why isn't my skin loading from a player name?
Make sure the player name is spelled exactly right and that the account has a skin set. If the name is invalid or the account has no skin, the mod can't fetch anything.
Will Fabric Tailor affect my game's performance?
The mod has minimal performance impact since it only loads skin textures when needed. HD skins use slightly more memory, but this is negligible on modern systems.
