How to Update Fabric Loader and Your Mods Safely

Back Up First

Updating can break worlds if a mod changes how it stores data. Before touching anything, copy your world saves and your mods folder somewhere safe. This lets you roll back instantly if something goes wrong.

Update the Loader

Run the Fabric installer again and select the Minecraft version you play. It creates or refreshes the Fabric profile in your launcher. You do not need to delete your old profile first, but selecting the newest loader build for your game version is the goal. Launch once with your existing mods to confirm nothing broke.

Update Mods One at a Time

Replace old mod jars with newer versions that support your Minecraft version. Do this a few at a time, launching between batches. If the game crashes, check the log to see which mod failed, then revert that jar. Remember that Fabric API must also be updated to a version matching your game. Never mix jars for different Minecraft versions in the same folder, and remove any mod you no longer use so it cannot conflict with updated ones.
