Fabric Loader FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I know Fabric Loader is actually installed and working?
Launch the game and check the main menu or the mods list — Fabric Loader shows up as an entry there, and the version string appears in the bottom corner of the title screen. If you see your Fabric mods listed alongside it, the loader is running correctly.
Do I need Fabric API if I already have Fabric Loader?
Yes, they are separate things. Fabric Loader only loads mods, while Fabric API provides the shared hooks and utilities most mods depend on, so many mods will crash or do nothing without it.
Where do I put mod files for Fabric Loader to find them?
Drop the mod .jar files into the mods folder inside your Minecraft game directory for that profile. Fabric Loader scans that folder on startup, so anything placed elsewhere will be ignored.
Why do my mods not show up even though Fabric Loader is installed?
The most common causes are putting jars in the wrong folder, using a Forge-only mod, or launching the vanilla profile instead of the Fabric one. Check that the mod is built for Fabric and that you selected the Fabric profile in your launcher.
Can I run Forge mods with Fabric Loader?
No, Fabric Loader cannot load Forge mods directly. The two loaders use different systems, so a mod must be made for Fabric (or use a compatibility layer) to work.
How do I add more mods without breaking my existing setup?
Add mods a few at a time and test after each batch, keeping an eye on the mods list and the log. If something breaks, remove the newest additions to find the culprit.
Does Fabric Loader work on servers as well as singleplayer?
Yes, the same loader runs on both the client and the server. The server needs the Fabric server launcher and its own mods folder, and mods must be present on both sides unless they are client-only.
Why does the game crash right after I add a mod?
Usually it is a mod built for a different Minecraft version, a missing dependency like Fabric API, or two mods conflicting. Read the crash log to see which mod is named, then remove or update it.
How do I update Fabric Loader without losing my mods?
Install the newer loader into the same profile and leave your mods folder untouched. Back up your world and configs first, then check that each mod still supports your Minecraft version after updating.
Will Fabric Loader slow down my game?
The loader itself adds very little overhead; performance depends mostly on the mods you install. If the game feels slow, look at heavy mods and consider performance-focused ones rather than blaming the loader.
