Fabric Chunk Pregenerator Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I start pregenerating chunks?
Run /pregen start with a radius value, and the mod will begin generating a square region centered on your position. Only one pregeneration can run at a time, so make sure nothing else is already in progress.
What does the radius actually mean in /pregen start?
The radius is the distance in chunks from the center to each edge, so a radius of 10 creates a 20x20 chunk region. The pregenerator always makes a square, not a circle.
How do I stop pregeneration?
Use /pregen stop, which halts the process and reports how many chunks were completed. It's safe to stop at any time since already-generated chunks are kept.
How do I check how many chunks have been pregenerated?
Run /pregen status to see the number of chunks generated so far. Use /pregen help if you forget the available subcommands.
Can I run two pregenerations at the same time?
No, only one pregeneration can run at a time. You must stop or finish the current one before starting another.
Will pregenerating chunks reduce lag on my server later?
Yes, pregenerating moves the heavy chunk-generation work to one controlled session, so players exploring afterward cause far less lag. The tradeoff is that the pregeneration itself is resource-intensive while it runs.
Does pregeneration work on a Fabric server, or only singleplayer?
It works on both Fabric servers and singleplayer worlds. On a server, run the commands from the console or as an operator in-game.
Where does pregeneration start from?
It generates around the position where the command is run, so stand at your base or spawn before starting. The region is centered on that point and expands outward in a square.
Can I keep playing while chunks are pregenerating?
You can, but expect reduced performance and possible stuttering since chunk generation uses significant CPU and memory. Many players prefer to pregenerate during off-hours or while AFK.
What happens if I pick a radius that's too large?
A large radius can take a very long time and consume a lot of disk space, since every chunk in the square is saved. Start with a smaller radius and expand later if needed.
