How to Get Saplings, Apples, and Sticks with the Crook
Crafting the Crook
The
Bone Crook is crafted from bones (typically bone meal or bone blocks combined with sticks — check JEI for the exact recipe). It is a tool, not a block, and it has durability. Use it until it breaks, then craft another.
Using the Crook on leaves
Right-click or break leaves with the
Crook equipped. Compared to breaking leaves by hand, the
Crook dramatically increases the chance of dropping saplings and sticks, and it can also drop apples from oak and dark oak leaves. This is critical in skyblock-style starts where you have no natural trees — you need saplings to grow more trees, and sticks for tools and
crafting.
Scaling up
Harvest logs with an axe, then use the
Crook again on the new leaves. Repeat until you have a sustainable tree farm. Sticks from
Crook drops can be crafted into ladders, fences, tools, and torches. Apples are food — eat them to
survive early on. If you have a
Compressed Sieve, you can also sift dirt or gravel for additional sapling chances, but the
Crook remains the fastest
early-game source.
