How to Automate Your Sieve and Barrel Setup

Why automate

Manual sifting is slow. Once you have steady material income, automating the Sieve and Barrel saves enormous time. Ex Deorum blocks are designed to work with hoppers, pipes, and other automation from tech mods.

Sieve automation

Place a Sieve and put a hopper above it feeding the material you want to sift. Below the Sieve, place another hopper or a pipe to collect outputs. You will still need to trigger the sifting action — some setups use a mechanical user or deployer from another mod to right-click the sieve repeatedly. If your modpack includes such a block, point it at the Sieve and give it a redstone pulse or continuous signal.

Barrel and Crucible automation

For Barrels, hoppers can insert items for composting, and fluid pipes can insert or extract water. For Crucibles, hoppers above can feed cobblestone, and fluid pipes below or beside can pull out lava. Use item filters to keep only the correct inputs going in. Compressed Sieves may accept bulk input — test with a small stack first. Always leave at least one output slot free so the machine does not jam. Check JEI for which pipes and hoppers your pack supports.
