Essential Permissions Mod FAQ
6 questions players actually ask, answered.
What does the Essential Permissions Mod do?
It adds permission checks into vanilla Minecraft so servers can fully customize who is allowed to do what. This lets you control access to commands and other actions instead of relying on the default operator system.
How do command permissions work in this mod?
Command permissions use Brigadier's node system, where each node has its own permission. For example, minecraft.command.gamemode controls access to the /gamemode command node, while minecraft.command.gamemode.survival is needed to run /gamemode survival.
How do I grant full access to a command?
You need to give access to all of the command's child nodes, such as minecraft.command.gamemode.* for the gamemode command. Granting only the parent node is not enough to run every variant of the command.
What happens if the mod is installed server-side?
The server will make clients think they are OP, even though they may not actually be. This allows players with the appropriate permissions to place operator blocks and access the gamemode switcher menu.
What does the /execute if permission condition do?
It adds another condition to the /execute command that checks permissions. This lets datapacks verify whether a player or context has a given permission.
Does the mod replace the vanilla operator system?
It adds permission checks into vanilla rather than removing the operator system. Permissions are what actually gate access to commands and actions, while the OP illusion is only used to unlock certain client-side features.
