EpicYSM Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
Why aren't my combat animations playing when I attack?
Combat animations only activate when you're holding a weapon that the mod recognizes. Make sure you have a valid weapon equipped in your hand, and check that your custom player model is properly loaded in Yes Steve Model before entering combat.
Can I use this mod on servers that don't have EpicYSM installed?
No, both the server and your client need the mod active for combat animations to work. The mod is client-side, but the server must also be running it to sync the combat state and animations across players.
My armor isn't showing up during combat animations—what's wrong?
Make sure your custom armor model files are in a readable format (folder or zip file) and placed in the correct directory. The mod converts these on the fly, so if the files are encrypted or in an unsupported format, armor won't render during fights.
Do I lose my normal walking and idle animations when I install this?
No, your walk cycles, idle poses, and emotes work exactly as before outside of combat. Combat animations only activate when you're actively fighting, so your model behaves normally at all other times.
Can I use weapon skins or custom weapon models with combat animations?
Yes, the mod works with popular combat weapon expansions and will render custom weapon models and effects on your character's skeleton during fights. Make sure the weapon mod is compatible with your combat system.
What happens to the default weapon model when I'm fighting?
The mod automatically hides decorative built-in weapons during combat so only the actual item in your hand is visible, preventing visual clutter or duplicate weapons.
Do I need to decrypt my .ysm model files for combat animations to work?
No, the mod applies battle poses to encrypted .ysm files directly in memory without requiring you to decrypt them first.
Will this mod cause lag or performance issues?
Since it runs client-side and only processes animations during combat, performance impact is minimal on most systems. If you experience lag, try disabling weapon trail effects or reducing your model's complexity.
Can I use combat skills and special abilities with my custom model?
Yes, the mod supports combat skills and special abilities from compatible weapon mods, and these will play their animations directly on your custom skeleton.
Why do my custom model's animations look broken or glitchy during fights?
This usually means your model's skeleton structure isn't compatible with the combat animation rig, or the model files are corrupted. Try re-exporting your model from Yes Steve Model and ensure all bone names match the expected format.
