Epic Fight ExCap Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I start creating a custom weapon moveset?
Create a JSON file in your mod's assets folder defining your weapon's capability, then register it to your item using the Extendable Weapon Capability system. Reference the Create a Custom Weapon Moveset guide for the required structure and fields.
Can I add moves to a weapon that already exists in another mod?
Yes, use the extend functionality to add new attacks to existing weapons without modifying the original mod. See the Extend an Existing Weapon's Moveset guide for how to layer your custom moves on top of another weapon's capability.
What's the difference between a moveset and a capability?
A capability is the system that attaches combat behavior to a weapon item, while a moveset is the collection of individual attacks and animations that capability uses. The Extendable Weapon Capability lets you define and modify movesets for any weapon.
How do I link my custom animations to weapon attacks?
In your moveset JSON, reference your animation files by path and bind them to specific attack phases (startup, active, recovery). The Link Animations to Weapon Attacks guide covers the exact syntax and timing requirements.
Why aren't my weapon moves showing up in-game?
Check that your JSON file has no syntax errors, your item is properly registered to the capability, and the file path matches your mod's namespace exactly. Reload your world or restart the game to ensure changes are loaded.
Can I control how much damage each attack does?
Yes, each attack in your moveset can have its own damage value and hit detection settings configured in the JSON. See Configure Weapon Damage and Hit Detection for how to set impact frames, damage multipliers, and knockback per move.
Does this mod work with other Epic Fight add-ons?
Epic Fight ExCap Mod is designed as a shared library for Epic Fight-based mods, so it should be compatible with other mods that use the same system. If you encounter conflicts, check that only one mod is defining the same weapon capability.
How do I make an attack hit multiple enemies?
Configure the hit detection area in your attack's JSON definition to use a larger collision box or sweep radius. The hit detection system will catch all entities within that zone during the active frames of the move.
Can I make a weapon have different movesets based on conditions?
The capability system supports conditional logic in JSON, allowing you to define alternate move chains based on player state, held items, or other factors. Check your mod's documentation for the specific condition syntax available.
Will custom movesets cause lag or performance issues?
Well-optimized movesets have minimal impact, but excessive animations, large hit detection areas, or too many simultaneous attacks can cause performance drops. Test your moves in-game and simplify complex hit detection if you notice frame rate issues.
