Entity View Distance Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I open the entity view distance settings?
Go to Options, then Video Settings, and look for the Entity Distance Settings button. From there you can adjust visibility per entity type without leaving the game.
What does the /entityviewdistance command do?
It lets you view and change entity render distances directly from chat, which is faster than clicking through menus. Use it to set a global value or target specific entity types.
Do I need this mod on the server too?
No. It works client-side or server-side independently, so you can connect to vanilla servers or let vanilla clients join your server. Installing it on both sides just gives you more control.
Why are my entities still disappearing even after I increased the distance?
The server's own entity tracking range can override your client setting, so if the server isn't sending the entity to you, no client tweak will show it. On singleplayer or a server you control, raise the server-side value too.
Does this mod work with modded entities?
Yes, it works with all entities including ones added by other mods. They show up in the Entity Distance Settings list so you can tune them individually.
Will lowering entity view distance actually improve my FPS?
Yes, especially in crowded areas like villages, farms, or servers with many players. Fewer entities rendered means less work for your GPU and CPU each frame.
How do I make item frames or armor stands visible from farther away?
Open Entity Distance Settings and find the specific entity type in the list, then increase its value. Setting a per-entity value overrides the global distance for that type only.
What's the difference between the global setting and per-entity settings?
The global value applies to every entity as a baseline, while per-entity values override it for that specific type. Use the global for a quick sweep and per-entity for fine-tuning things like item frames or mobs.
Can I reset everything back to default?
Yes, the settings screen includes a reset option that restores all entity distances to their vanilla defaults. You can also clear individual overrides if you only want to undo a few changes.
Does this mod conflict with optimization mods like Sodium or OptiFine?
It's designed to work alongside performance mods since it only changes entity visibility distances, not the rendering pipeline. If you notice odd behavior, check that your other mods aren't also overriding entity culling.
