Create a Custom Mob Variant Using NBT Filters

Filter Mobs by NBT Tags

The Entity Canvas Editor lets you target specific mob variants without editing every instance of a mob type. Use NBT filtering to modify only the mobs that match your criteria.

1. Open /vme gui and locate your target mob in the list

2. Click Edit to open the mob's template

3. Look for the NBT Filter or Advanced Filter section

4. Enter the NBT tag condition you want to match (for example, a specific custom name or data tag)

5. Only mobs matching this filter will use your edited template

Save Your Filtered Template

Once your filter is set and your edits are complete:

1. Adjust attributes, behaviors, and immunities as needed in their respective tabs

2. Click Save to store the template

3. The mod writes this to your configuration file

4. Any new mobs spawning with matching NBT will use your custom settings

5. Existing mobs in your world won't change unless you re-apply the template

This approach is useful for creating boss variants, special mob types, or testing different configurations without affecting all mobs of that species.
