Troubleshoot "Too Expensive" Messages

Why You See "Too Expensive"

When the anvil shows this message, it typically means one of two things:

• Your experience level is too low for the current combination
• The server has set a maximum cost limit that this combination exceeds

Checking the True Cost

The Enhanced Enchants Plugin sends you a notification with the actual experience level required, even when the anvil interface blocks the action. Watch your chat for this message—it tells you the real cost needed.

Solutions

If you lack experience: Gain more levels by mining, defeating mobs, or smelting before attempting the combination again.

If the cost exceeds server limits: The server administrator has configured max_repair_cost to prevent extremely expensive combinations. You cannot bypass this restriction. Ask your administrator if they can adjust the limit or if alternative enchantment paths exist.

Server Configuration

Administrators can use /enhancedenchants maxrepaircost <number> to set thresholds and /enhancedenchants repaircostcap <number> to cap what players actually pay.
