How to Set Up Item Conveyor Belts for Automation
Belt Basics
Basic Item Conveyor Belts move items between machines. You'll also need Belt Loaders (to insert items onto belts), Belt Mergers (combine two belt lines), Belt Splitters (split one line into two), and Belt Switches (toggle belt direction or on/off).
Building a Simple Line
1. Place a Belt Loader next to the source inventory (chest, machine output).
2. Run Conveyor Belts from the loader to the destination.
3. Place the destination inventory at the end of the belt line.
Belts automatically push items along their facing direction. Use a wrench or the belt's GUI to rotate them.
Routing and Control
- Mergers take two input belts and combine them into one output belt — useful when feeding multiple machines into shared storage.
- Splitters take one input and alternate outputs — useful for distributing items evenly.
- Switches let you stop or redirect a belt line, handy for on/off control via redstone.
Common Issues
If items stop moving, check: belt direction (they must all face the same way toward the destination), loader has items to push, and destination has space. Belts don't consume energy — they're purely mechanical, so no cables needed.
