How to Stop Mending (or Any Enchantment) from Appearing in Loot and Trades

Why Loot and Trades Need Separate Attention

Disabling an enchantment in the config removes it from enchanting tables and creative menus, but loot generation and villager trades pull from their own pools. The mod handles these automatically once the enchantment is on the disabled list, but you must confirm the config actually loaded. If you edited the file while the game was running, your changes were ignored.

Step-by-Step Verification

1. Add the enchantment's registry name (for example minecraft:mending) to the disabled list in the config.

2. Fully close Minecraft and relaunch.

3. Create a fresh test world so loot tables generate with the new rules.

4. Open several structure chests (dungeons, mineshafts, strongholds) and check enchanted books. The disabled enchantment should be absent.

5. Find a librarian villager and cycle trades. The disabled book should never appear, even after multiple restocks.

Handling Existing Worlds

Loot already generated in old chunks keeps whatever it rolled. Only newly generated chests respect the disabled list. Villager trades, however, are re-rolled when the villager levels up or restocks, so existing librarians will eventually stop offering the disabled book. If you need it gone immediately, use the mod's trade-restock tweak or replace the villager.
