How to Read Effect Descriptions Added by EMIffect

Where Descriptions Come From

EMEffect pulls effect descriptions from language files using a structured key format: effect.[mod_id].[effect_name].description. When you open an effect's EMI info page, the mod looks up that key in the loaded language files and displays the matching text. This means the quality and completeness of descriptions depends on whether the mod author (or a translation pack) has supplied the key.

Viewing a Description In-Game

Open EMI, search for the effect by name, and click its phantom item entry. The info panel will show the description text if one exists. Descriptions are written to explain what the effect actually does — for example, whether it damages you over time, boosts a stat, or changes movement — rather than just repeating the effect's name.

What To Do If a Description Is Missing

If the description area is blank, the language key for that effect has not been provided. You cannot add one from inside the game; descriptions are supplied by mods or resource packs. Check whether a newer version of the mod that adds the effect includes EMIffect support, or whether a language/resource pack covers it. For effects from mods you are developing or configuring, the key format above is what you would use in a lang file to make the description appear.

Practical Use

Before applying a potion, enchantment, or mob effect you do not recognize, look it up in EMI first. This lets you judge whether the effect is beneficial or harmful without trial and error.
