How to Add Custom Descriptions for Your Own Mod's Status Effects
Understanding the Language Key Format
EMEffect reads descriptions from language files using the pattern effect.[mod_id].[effect_name].description. The [mod_id] is your mod's identifier and [effect_name] is the registry name of your status effect. Getting both parts exactly right is essential — a typo means the description will not appear.
Writing the Lang Entry
In your mod's language file (for example an en_us.json), add an entry where the key follows the format above and the value is the description text you want players to see. For example, if your mod id is mymod and your effect is registered as frostbite, the key would be effect.mymod.frostbite.description and the value would be a sentence or two explaining what frostbite does to the player. Keep the description factual and concise so it reads well in EMI's info panel.
Verifying It Works
Launch the game with EMIffect and EMI installed, open EMI, and search for your effect by name. Click its phantom item entry and confirm your description text appears. If it does not, double-check the mod id, the effect's registry name, and that the lang file is actually loaded (correct folder and valid JSON).
Localization
You can provide the same key in other language files to give translated descriptions. Each language file uses the same key, only the value changes.
