How to Survive a Berserker or Other High-Damage Eldritch Modifier

Understand What You're Facing

Modifiers like Berserker, Alchemist, and Toxic each change how a mob fights. High-damage modifiers reward burst damage and punish prolonged melee. The core rule is: never trade hits with an Eldritch mob, because its damage output is scaled well above vanilla and its health pool means you'll lose a war of attrition.

Combat Steps

1. Engage at range first. Bows, crossbows, and thrown potions let you chip health without eating hits. Strafe while firing so the mob can't close distance freely.

2. Control the terrain. Fight in open ground or use blocks to break line of sight. A mob that can't reach you can't apply its on-hit effects.

3. Use crowd control. Knockback, slowing effects, and blocking with a shield buy you the seconds you need to reposition. A shield is far more valuable here than against vanilla mobs.

4. Burst it down. Once its health is low, commit fully. Dragging the fight out gives regeneration and ability cooldowns time to work against you.

5. Retreat when debuffed. If you get poisoned, withered, or weakened, disengage, eat, and re-engage. Fighting through a debuff against a high-damage mob is how players die.

Gear to Bring

Golden apples, healing potions, and a shield are near-mandatory. Enchanted armor with Protection reduces the spike damage that makes these mobs lethal.
