Using Egg Faces to Speed Up Creative Building and Testing

The Problem With Creative Spawn Egg Tabs

In creative mode you often need one specific mob fast — a villager to test a trade hall, a specific illager to check a raid setup. Scrolling a full creative tab of near-identical eggs wastes time. The face textures let you scan the tab visually instead of reading tooltips.

A Faster Workflow

  • Keep a hotbar row of your five most-used eggs. With faces, you can confirm the right one without opening your inventory.
  • When testing a farm design, place the egg, watch the mob, then break it. The face makes it obvious if you grabbed the wrong variant.
  • For redstone testing, use eggs whose faces you recognize instantly so you are not second-guessing yourself mid-build.

Organizing a Test World

Create a chest near your build site and fill it with the eggs relevant to that project only. Because the faces are visible in the chest GUI, you can pull the right egg without hovering over each slot. This is especially helpful for mobs with many variants, where the vanilla colors are nearly indistinguishable at a glance.
