How to Tell Spawn Eggs Apart at a Glance in Your Inventory
Why the Default Eggs Are Hard to Read
Vanilla spawn eggs share a small set of base colors, so a hotbar full of them turns into a guessing game. This resource pack replaces the egg texture with the face and eyes of the mob it spawns, which means recognition happens by silhouette and expression rather than by color alone.
Reading the Faces
- Look at the eyes first. Hostile mobs tend to have narrow, angled or glowing eyes, while passive mobs have round, wide-set eyes. That split alone separates most of a survival inventory.
- Check the head shape. Wide, flat faces (cow, pig, sheep family) read differently from tall, narrow faces (villager-type, illager-type).
- Variants of the same family still share a face, so a Husk egg and a Zombie egg look similar. Sort those by hovering or by keeping them in separate shulker boxes.
Practical Sorting
Put hostile eggs in one box and passive eggs in another, then rely on the faces inside each box. Because the texture is applied to the item model, the faces also show up in item frames and on the ground, so you can label a mob farm's storage wall with the eggs themselves instead of signs.
