Making Natural-Looking Walls and Floors with Randomized Blocks

Randomized block placement is the fastest way to avoid the flat, artificial look that comes from using a single block everywhere. This guide focuses on using the Randomizer Tool for terrain and structures.

Choosing a Block Palette

1. Pick a base block for the majority of the surface (for example, a common stone or wood type).

2. Add a couple of close variants that share a similar color and texture.

3. Optionally add one slightly darker or lighter accent block at a low frequency so it appears occasionally.

Applying It to a Build

1. Load your palette into the Randomizer Tool.

2. Select the area you want to fill using the mod's building modes.

3. Place the blocks. The tool distributes your palette randomly across the selection.

4. Walk the build and check for spots where the randomizer clustered the same block too densely. Touch those up by hand if needed.

Tips

  • For paths and floors, a tighter palette reads better than a wide one.
  • For ruined or weathered structures, a wider palette with more contrast sells the effect.
  • Save your favorite palettes so you can reuse them on later builds without re-adding every block.
