How to Use Effect IDs for Troubleshooting and Commands

Effect Tooltips can display the internal ID of an effect when that option is enabled. The ID is the registry name the game uses internally, and it is what you need when writing commands, configuring mods, or reporting bugs. Seeing it in the tooltip saves you from digging through files.

Enabling and Reading the ID

1. Check the mod's config screen or config file for an option that toggles ID display, and turn it on.

2. Hover over an effect icon. An additional line now shows the effect's registry ID.

3. Note the exact spelling, including any namespace prefix that identifies the mod.

Using the ID

With the ID in hand you can target the effect in commands, for example when applying or clearing it on yourself or another entity. You can also paste the ID into a mod's config to blacklist or modify that effect, or include it in a bug report so the developer knows precisely which effect is misbehaving. Because IDs are unambiguous, they avoid the confusion that comes from two mods giving effects similar display names.
