Effect Tooltips Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I get the effect tooltips to show up?
Just hover your cursor over an active effect icon in your inventory or status HUD area. The tooltip appears automatically — no keybind or setup is needed.
Where do I see the effect tooltip in the inventory screen?
Open your inventory and look at the effect icons displayed on the side of the screen. Hovering over any of those icons brings up the tooltip with name, level, duration, and source mod.
Can I see effect tooltips on mobs and other entities?
Yes, hovering over the effect icons shown for another entity reveals the same information as for yourself. This works whenever that entity's effects are visible to you.
How do I know which mod added a specific effect?
The tooltip includes a line naming the mod that registered the effect. This is the main way to trace an unfamiliar effect back to its source.
How do I check the amplifier level of an effect?
The tooltip lists the effect's level or amplifier directly, so you can tell a level I effect from a higher one at a glance. This is useful when stacking or comparing effects.
How do I see how long an effect has left before it expires?
The remaining duration is shown in the tooltip, updating as the effect ticks down. Hover again to refresh the value if the tooltip is still open.
How do I find an effect's ID for commands or troubleshooting?
The tooltip can display the effect's ID, which you can copy into commands or use to look up the effect in mod configs. Enable the ID display if it isn't showing by default.
Why isn't the tooltip showing the mod name or ID?
Some effects registered by vanilla or by mods that don't provide source metadata may not show a mod name. If the ID line is missing, check the mod's config options for a toggle.
Does this mod work with other HUD or tooltip mods?
It generally coexists with other tooltip and HUD mods, but overlapping tooltip mods can sometimes hide or reorder lines. If lines disappear, try disabling the conflicting tooltip mod to confirm.
Will this mod cause lag or performance issues?
The mod only adds text to tooltips when you hover, so its performance impact is negligible. It does not run continuous background calculations on effects.
