How to Inspect Effects on Other Entities and Mobs

Effect Tooltips is not limited to your own status bar. When you can view another entity's effects, the tooltip enhancement applies there too, letting you see what buffs or debuffs a mob, pet, or another player is carrying. This is useful for debugging modded mob behavior and for understanding why an enemy seems unusually tough or fast.

Steps

1. Get into a situation where you can see another entity's effect icons, such as a mob with visible potion particles or a player whose effects you can inspect.

2. Hover over the effect icon as you would for your own effects.

3. Read the name, amplifier, duration, and source mod lines exactly as before.

What to Look For

If a modded boss keeps regenerating, check whether it has a Regeneration effect and which mod supplied it. If a tamed pet is moving faster than expected, inspect for a Speed effect. If another player in multiplayer has a suspicious buff, the source mod line tells you whether it is from a vanilla potion or a modded mechanic. This turns effect inspection into a diagnostic tool rather than just a convenience.
