How to Show Effect Descriptions on Potion and Food Items

Viewing Descriptions Before You Consume

Effect Insights adds descriptions not only to active effect icons but also to the items that grant effects. Hover over a potion, splash potion, lingering potion, tipped arrow, or effect-granting food item in your inventory, hotbar, or a container, and the tooltip will list the effects it applies along with their explanations.

This lets you check what a potion does before drinking it, which is useful when you are unsure whether a modded potion is beneficial or dangerous.

Reading Multi-Effect Items

Some items apply more than one effect at once. In that case the tooltip lists each effect separately, so you can read them one by one. If the list feels long, look for the effect name first, then read the description beneath it.

If descriptions are missing on an item, the mod may not have a description registered for that effect yet, or the tooltip setting may be limited to certain contexts. Try hovering the item in a different screen (for example, a chest instead of your inventory) to confirm whether the setting is context-specific.
