Effect Insights Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I see what a potion effect actually does?
Hover your mouse over the effect icon in your inventory screen and a tooltip will appear with a plain-language description of what that effect does. This works for any active effect shown in your status effect list.
Why don't I see descriptions on my potion items in the inventory?
Item tooltips for potions and food are controlled by a separate setting from the effect icon tooltips. Open the mod's config and make sure the option for showing descriptions on items is enabled, since it may be off by default.
How do I turn off the effect ID and source mod info?
In the mod's configuration, disable the additional info option that appends the source mod name and effect ID. Once off, tooltips will only show the readable description.
Can I change where the description appears in the tooltip?
Yes, the mod's settings let you choose when and where descriptions appear, including formatting options. Check the config screen for placement and formatting toggles.
Does this mod work with potion effects from other mods?
Yes, Effect Insights includes descriptions for many modded effects in addition to all vanilla ones. If a modded effect has no description yet, it simply won't show one until support is added.
A modded effect shows no description — what's wrong?
Not every modded effect is covered, so some may appear without a description. This isn't a bug; the mod only displays descriptions it has data for.
How do I stop descriptions from showing on every item tooltip?
Disable the item tooltip option in the config so descriptions only appear when you hover effect icons in your inventory. This keeps normal item tooltips clean.
Is this mod client-side only, or do I need it on the server?
It's a client-side mod, so you only need it installed on your own game to see descriptions. Servers don't need it, and it won't affect other players.
Will this mod hurt my performance or cause lag?
No, it only adds text to tooltips and doesn't run heavy background processes, so performance impact is negligible. If you notice tooltip lag, it's more likely from other mods adding tooltip content.
Do I need to configure anything to get started?
No setup is required — install the mod and hover over effect icons or potion items to see descriptions immediately. Configuration is only needed if you want to change where, when, or how descriptions appear.
