How to Eat Blaze Powder, Glowstone Dust, Magma Cream, and Sugar for Their Effects

Eating the Ingredients

Hold the ingredient in your hand and use it the same way you would eat any food. Right-click (or hold the use button on your platform) while the item is selected. The item is consumed and you immediately receive its status effect.

  • Blaze Powder grants you a Strength effect.
  • Glowstone Dust applies the Glow effect to entities around you, not just yourself.
  • Magma Cream grants Fire Resistance.
  • Sugar grants a Speed effect.

What to Expect

Each effect lasts only a short time by default, so treat these as quick boosts rather than long buffs. Because the durations are short, it helps to eat the ingredient right when you need it — for example, eat Magma Cream just before crossing lava or fighting a blaze, and eat Sugar right before a sprint across open terrain.

The Glowstone Dust effect is unusual: it lights up nearby entities rather than giving you a personal buff, which makes it useful for spotting mobs in dark caves or at night. Eat it when you want to reveal what is around you.

If you eat too many of the same item in a single day, you will start receiving a Weakness effect instead. See the guide on managing the daily limit to avoid this.
