Ears Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I open the ears menu in game?
Press the Ears keybind (default is usually a letter near the movement keys) while in-game to open the feature editor, or find the Ears button on the skin customization screen. If the keybind does nothing, check your Controls settings and make sure it isn't conflicting with another mod.
How do I add ears to my skin?
Open the Ears editor and enable the feature you want, then paint it directly onto the extra skin area the mod reserves. The mod stores everything as pixels in your skin file, so you edit features the same way you'd edit any other part of your skin.
Where are my ears stored, do I need a separate file?
No separate file is needed — all Ears data lives in the unused pixel regions of your normal player skin. That means your features travel with your skin automatically and show up anywhere the skin is loaded.
Why can't other players see my ears?
Other players only see your features if they also have the Ears mod installed, since the data is read from your skin client-side. If they have the mod and still can't see them, make sure your skin actually saved with the feature pixels intact and that you're not on a server stripping skin data.
My ears disappeared after I changed my skin
Editing or re-uploading your skin in an external editor can overwrite the pixel regions Ears uses, wiping your features. Re-open the Ears editor and re-apply them, and avoid tools that flatten or re-encode the whole skin.
Can I have ears and a tail at the same time?
Yes, Ears supports enabling multiple features at once, so you can combine ears, a tail, horns, wings, and more on a single skin. Just toggle each one on in the editor and paint its pixels.
Do other players need the mod to see my features?
Yes — Ears is client-side cosmetic data stored in the skin, so only players running the mod will render your features. Vanilla players will just see your normal skin.
Does ears work on servers?
It works on most servers because it's client-side and doesn't require server installation, but some servers with strict skin handling or anti-cheat may interfere. If features don't show, test in singleplayer first to confirm your skin is correct.
Does Ears Mod cause lag or performance issues?
Ears is designed to be lightweight since it just reads pixels from skins rather than running heavy 3D rendering or data syncing. Performance impact is minimal compared to model-based cosmetic mods.
Can I use ears with other skin or cosmetic mods?
Generally yes, but mods that also write to the same unused skin pixel areas can conflict and overwrite each other's data. If features break, disable the other cosmetic mod and re-apply your Ears settings.
