How to Stop Dynamic View Mod from Reducing View Distance Too Aggressively
Why the View Distance Keeps Dropping
Dynamic View Mod lowers chunk view distance whenever average tick time exceeds your configured threshold. If you notice the view distance constantly dropping even when the server feels fine, your average tick time target is likely set too low for your hardware, or your update frequency is checking too often and reacting to brief spikes. The mod does not distinguish between a momentary lag spike and sustained lag unless you tune the update frequency to smooth things out.
Tuning the Threshold and Update Frequency
Raise the average tick time value in the config so the mod tolerates more lag before cutting view distance. Remember that a higher tick time means a lower target TPS, so find a balance where the server stays playable without the view distance collapsing. Increase the update frequency interval so the mod samples tick time over a longer window, which prevents it from overreacting to short spikes from things like world generation or mob pathfinding.
Raising the Minimum View Distance
The minimum chunk view distance is your safety net. If players are complaining that they can barely see anything during busy moments, increase this minimum. The mod will still reduce view distance under load, but it will never go below the floor you set. Combine a higher minimum with a more forgiving tick time target to keep the world visible without sacrificing stability. Test during peak hours with real player activity, since artificial conditions rarely match live server behavior.
