How to Configure Dynamic View Mod for Your Server's TPS Target
Understanding the Tick Time Setting
The core of Dynamic View Mod is the average tick time value you configure. This number represents the tick time the mod will try to balance around. The relationship is straightforward: a tick time of 50 ms equals 20 TPS (the vanilla target), 100 ms equals 10 TPS, and 200 ms equals 5 TPS. The formula is 1000 divided by your tick time equals your target TPS. So if you want the server to aim for a smooth 20 TPS, you set the average tick time to 50. If your server hardware is weaker and you would rather accept a lower but stable TPS, raise the number accordingly.
Setting Min and Max View Distance
Open the mod's config file and locate the minimum and maximum chunk view distance entries. The minimum is the floor the mod will never go below, even under heavy lag. The maximum is the ceiling it will rise to when the server is healthy. A safe starting point is a moderate minimum so players never lose too much visibility, and a maximum that matches what your hardware can comfortably handle when idle. Set the update frequency to control how often the mod checks tick time and adjusts the view distance. A shorter interval reacts faster but may cause more frequent swings; a longer interval is smoother but slower to respond.
Testing Your Setup
After saving the config, restart or reload the server. Watch the view distance change as player count and load fluctuate. Adjust the average tick time up if the server still struggles, or down if you have headroom to spare.
