Navigate the Nether Safely Using Glowing Items

Choose Your Light Source

The Nether is naturally dark and dangerous. Equip a glowing item to see threats before they see you.

Recommended items:

• Lanterns (Level 15) offer maximum visibility
• Torches (Level 14) are easy to craft from wood and coal
• Soul torches (Level 10) fit the Nether's aesthetic and still provide useful light

Spot Mobs and Hazards

Dynamic lighting reveals:

• Hostile mobs approaching from the darkness
• Lava pools and fire blocks ahead
• Ghasts and other flying threats
• Cliffs and terrain drops

Combine with Blaze Sightings

Blazes naturally emit Level 15 light, the brightest in the game. If you encounter a Blaze spawner or fortress, the blazes themselves will light the area. Use your hand-held light to supplement this and maintain visibility when blazes are not nearby.
