Dynamic Lightings Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

Do I need to configure anything when I first install the mod?
The mod works out of the box with default settings—just load a world and any light sources you hold will immediately illuminate your surroundings. You can adjust brightness levels and toggle specific light sources in the mod's config menu if you want to customize the experience.
Why isn't my torch lighting up when I hold it?
Make sure you're holding the torch in your main hand (not your offhand), and check that dynamic lighting hasn't been disabled in the mod settings. Some servers or modpacks may have the feature turned off for performance reasons.
Does the light from items in my inventory affect my surroundings?
No—only items held in your main hand produce light that follows you. Items stored in your inventory, hotbar, or offhand do not emit light.
Can I see glowing mobs light up in caves?
Yes, glowing creatures like Blazes and Glow Squids will illuminate the area around them as they move, making them easier to spot in dark caves and helping you track their positions.
Does this mod work with other mods that add custom glowing items?
Compatibility depends on how the other mod is coded; many popular mods work well together, but some may conflict. Check the mod's documentation or community forums if you're combining it with other lighting or item mods.
Will dynamic lighting slow down my game?
The mod has a minor performance impact since it calculates light in real time, but most modern systems handle it well. If you experience lag, try reducing the brightness levels or disabling dynamic lighting for specific item types in the config.
Does the light from held items go through walls?
Light behaves naturally and does not pass through solid blocks—it only illuminates the open space directly around you, just like regular Minecraft lighting.
Can I use this mod on multiplayer servers?
Yes, but the server must have the mod installed as well for dynamic lighting to work for all players. Single-player worlds and servers without the mod will not show dynamic lighting effects.
Do enchanted items like mending torches produce more light?
Enchantments do not affect the light level an item produces—only the item type itself determines brightness, so a mending torch glows the same as a regular torch.
What's the difference between holding a lantern and holding a torch?
Lanterns produce level 15 brightness (the brightest available), while torches produce level 14 brightness, so lanterns illuminate a slightly larger area around you when held.
