How to Make the Dynamic Crosshair React Correctly to Modded Tools and Weapons

Why the crosshair ignores some modded items

Dynamic Crosshair normally decides what shape to show by reading the vanilla item's class and behavior. A modded pickaxe, wand, or gun may not extend the vanilla classes the base mod checks for, so the crosshair falls back to a generic state. Dynamic Crosshair Compat exists to bridge that gap, but it can only do so for mods it recognises or that expose the right information.

Steps to get accurate crosshair states

1. Make sure Dynamic Crosshair itself is installed and working before adding the Compat add-on. The add-on does not replace the base mod.

2. Install the Compat add-on alongside the base mod, then launch the game once so both are loaded together.

3. Equip the modded tool or weapon and look at a block. Watch whether the crosshair switches between mine, attack, and interact states as you move your aim.

4. If a specific modded item still shows the wrong state, open the Dynamic Crosshair configuration and check whether that item is being handled by a generic fallback rather than a dedicated rule.

5. Where the base mod lets you define custom crosshair behaviour per item or per item tag, add an entry for the modded item so it maps to the correct action.

6. Retest in a safe area, since some modded tools only change state when a target is actually valid.

If an item still misbehaves, it usually means the source mod does not expose enough information for the crosshair to interpret, and no add-on can fully fix that.
