How to Recolor Cows, Pigs, and Other Farm Animals
Why Recolor Farm Animals
Turning your livestock different colors is a fun way to organize a farm or just make it look nicer. Since the mod works on nearly every animal, you can give each pen its own color theme or mark specific animals so you can tell them apart at a glance.
Step by Step
1. Gather the dye colors you want. A single dye changes one mob, so bring enough for every animal you plan to recolor.
2. Approach the animal — a cow, pig, chicken, or similar passive mob — and hold the dye in your hand.
3. Aim at the animal and right-click. Its color updates immediately to the dye you used.
4. Move to the next animal and repeat. You can mix colors freely, so a pen can hold red, blue, and green cows side by side.
Tips for a Tidy Farm
- Decide on a color per pen before you start so you do not waste dye recoloring the same animal twice.
- Because the change is purely cosmetic, recolored animals still behave normally — they still breed, drop the same loot, and follow the same AI.
- If you want to revert an animal, simply apply the dye color that matches how you want it to look; there is no separate undo step.
- Keep a spare stack of your most-used dye in a nearby chest so you can recolor new animals as they are bred.
