How to Dye Hostile Mobs and Villagers

Dyeing More Than Animals

The mod is not limited to passive farm animals. It also works on monsters and villagers, which opens up options for marking dangerous areas, pranking friends, or giving a village a coordinated look.

Dyeing Hostile Mobs

1. Hold your chosen dye in your hand.

2. Get close enough to the hostile mob that your crosshair rests on it.

3. Right-click the mob to apply the dye. The color changes right away.

Because hostile mobs move and attack, this is easiest when they are trapped, cornered, or otherwise unable to chase you. A safe approach is to box a mob in or lure it into a spot where you can right-click without taking hits. Keep your off-hand free for a shield or weapon if you are in danger.

Dyeing Villagers

Villagers can be recolored the same way. Walk up to a villager, hold dye, aim, and right-click. This is handy for color-coding different trading halls or marking a specific villager you visit often.

Practical Uses

  • Color-code mobs by danger level or by which farm they belong to.
  • Mark a specific villager so you can find their trades quickly.
  • Give a village or a mob grinder a consistent color scheme.
  • Remember that dyeing does not change a mob's behavior, drops, or hostility — it is purely a visual change.
