Dye Your First Piece of Armor
Gather Your Materials
Collect a piece of armor you want to dye and any dye color available in Minecraft. This works with diamond, iron, netherite, gold, chain, or leather armor—not just leather.
Apply the Dye
Open your crafting table or inventory crafting grid. Place your armor piece in the grid alongside your chosen dye. The dye will combine with the armor, applying the color permanently. Unlike leather armor, you don't need to use a cauldron—the crafting grid is all you need.
You can use any single dye color per craft. If you want to change the color later, simply craft the armor with a different dye to override the previous color.
Combine Multiple Dyes
For custom colors, you can mix dyes together before applying them to armor. Combine dyes in your crafting grid to create new colors, then use the resulting mixed dye on your armor piece. This gives you access to a much wider palette than single dyes alone.
Your dyed armor retains all its original durability and enchantments—dyeing is purely cosmetic.
