Dungeons and Taverns Mineshaft Overhaul Data Pack FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
Do mineshafts generate automatically or do I need to do something?
Mineshafts generate automatically when you create a new world or explore ungenerated chunks with the data pack installed. They replace vanilla mineshafts in the same biomes where they would normally appear, so you don't need to trigger anything—just explore underground.
What's the difference between normal mineshafts and mesa mineshafts?
Normal mineshafts spawn iron ore deposits along their paths, while mesa mineshafts (in badlands biomes) contain gold ore instead. Both use the same jigsaw-based tunnel system, but the ore type changes based on biome.
Where do I find mineshafts in mountains?
Mountain mineshafts generate inside jagged peaks, snowy peaks, and stony peaks. Jagged peaks contain redstone ore, stony peaks contain emerald ore, and both feature complex tunnel networks carved through the rock.
Can mineshafts spawn on the surface?
Yes, rare surface mineshafts can spawn across any surface biome. These are uncommon structures that contain coal ore deposits and appear as partially exposed tunnel entrances.
What should I bring when exploring these mineshafts?
Bring pickaxes (especially for ore deposits), torches or light sources (tunnels are dark), weapons for mob spawners, and a water bucket for safety. The tunnels can be complex and multi-leveled, so bringing a compass or marking your path helps.
Are there mob spawners in the mineshafts?
Yes, mob spawner side rooms are scattered throughout the mineshaft layouts. These spawner rooms are dangerous but often contain valuable loot in nearby chests.
What happens when mineshafts cut through water?
The data pack automatically creates protective stone shells around tunnel paths when they intersect with water or aquifers, preventing flooding and keeping the structure intact.
Do the mineshafts have minecart tracks?
Yes, main transit lines feature minecart tracks and rails throughout the structure. You can use these for transportation, though some sections may be damaged or incomplete.
Will this mod cause lag or performance issues?
The jigsaw-based generation is efficient, but large mineshaft networks with many wooden supports and spawners can impact performance on lower-end systems. Disabling mob spawners or using performance mods can help if you experience slowdowns.
Can I use this data pack with other mods or data packs?
This data pack should work with most mods, but conflicts may occur with other mods that heavily modify mineshaft generation or cave systems. Test it in a new world to ensure compatibility with your specific setup.
