Understand Head Appearance and Skin Changes

How Heads Capture Appearance

When a player dies, the datapack captures their current skin and creates a head item with that exact appearance. The head stores the player's UUID and skin data from that moment in time.

Skin Changes Don't Affect Placed Heads

If a player changes their Minecraft skin after dying, any heads they dropped before the change will keep their old appearance. The head is a permanent snapshot of how they looked when they died. This applies whether the head is in your inventory or already placed in the world.

Multiple Heads, Multiple Looks

If the same player dies multiple times with different skins, each death creates a head with that death's skin. You can collect multiple heads of the same player showing different appearances across your collection.

Verifying Head Identity

Hover over a head in your inventory to see the player's name in the tooltip. This confirms whose head you're holding, especially useful when managing collections from many players.
