Brighten Light Sources to Make Torches More Effective

Access Light and Brightness Settings

Open the DreadShade shader options menu. Look for settings related to light emission, bloom, or brightness multipliers.

Increase Light Source Intensity

Find the parameter that controls how bright light sources appear (torches, lanterns, glowstone, etc.). Increase this value to make your torches feel more protective against the heavy darkness. This makes light sources cast a more visible glow without affecting the overall dark aesthetic.

Adjust Bloom if Available

If DreadShade includes bloom or glow effects, increasing bloom strength will make light sources feel warmer and more prominent. This creates a better contrast between lit and dark areas.

Test in Dark Environments

Go into a cave or deep underground area with only torches for light. The increased brightness should make torches feel like a genuine defense against darkness rather than a weak flicker. Adjust incrementally—you want torches to feel powerful without breaking the horror atmosphere.

Balance the Effect

Remember that the mod's core appeal is making light feel insufficient. Increase brightness enough to play comfortably, but preserve some of that unsettling darkness that makes the shader effective.
