DreadShade Shaders FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I turn on DreadShade Shaders?
Open your shader settings menu in-game, find DreadShade in your shader pack list, and select it to activate. The dark and foggy effect should apply immediately to your world.
Why is my screen so dark around the edges?
That's the tunnel-vision vignette effect darkening the edges of your screen intentionally. You can reduce this effect by adjusting the vignette darkness setting in the shader options.
I can't see anything because of the fog. How do I fix this?
Adjust the fog density slider in your shader settings to make it thinner and improve visibility. Lowering this value will let you see further into the distance without losing the atmospheric effect.
My torches don't feel bright anymore. Can I make them stronger?
Yes—look for the light source brightness or light intensity setting in the shader options and increase it to make torches and other light sources feel more effective against the darkness.
Does DreadShade work with other mods?
DreadShade is a shader pack and works alongside most mods without conflict, but mods that heavily alter lighting or post-processing effects may cause visual issues or reduced performance.
Is DreadShade laggy? How can I improve performance?
Shaders can impact performance depending on your hardware. Try reducing fog density, disabling the vignette effect, or lowering your render distance to improve frame rates.
Can I disable the color desaturation to make the world less gray?
Yes—most shader packs include a color saturation or desaturation slider that you can adjust to bring back more color while keeping the dark atmosphere.
Does DreadShade work in all biomes?
DreadShade applies its dark and foggy effect globally across all biomes, though you can adjust individual settings like color desaturation to customize how it looks in specific areas.
Why do caves look even scarier with this shader?
The combination of thick fog, dark vignette, and desaturated colors makes caves feel more oppressive and claustrophobic, which is the intended effect of DreadShade's horror aesthetic.
Can I turn off just the fog or just the vignette?
Yes—most shader settings allow you to adjust or disable individual effects like fog density and vignette darkness separately, so you can customize which features you want active.
