How to Find an Ocean Monument After Installing the Overhaul
Why Monuments Are Harder to Locate Now
The overhaul turns Ocean Monuments into rare jigsaw structures, so they no longer spawn on a predictable grid the way vanilla monuments do. You cannot rely on the old trick of sailing in a straight line and expecting one every few hundred blocks. Treat the search like hunting a Woodland Mansion: rare, distant, and worth preparing for.
Practical Search Steps
1. Craft or obtain an Ocean Explorer Map if your modpack still provides one through cartographer trades — it remains the most reliable pointer to a monument's location.
2. If no map is available, use a boat plus Night Vision and Water Breathing to sweep deep ocean biomes methodically rather than randomly.
3. Watch for the monument's silhouette from the surface; the modular sections can produce taller or wider profiles than vanilla, so scan the horizon carefully.
4. Once you spot prismarine, mark the coordinates immediately — these structures are large and easy to lose track of underwater.
5. Bring a bed and supplies for a long trip, since the increased rarity means you may cross several ocean biomes before finding one.
Because each monument is randomized, two monuments in the same world will not look alike, so do not assume a layout you memorized from a previous one will match.
