Optimize Frame Rate While Using Depth Map Shaders
Understand Performance Impact
DMS Depth Map Shaders is designed to be lightweight, but depth calculations still require processing power. The shader focuses on distance-based rendering rather than complex lighting, making it friendlier to older systems than most alternatives.
Adjust Render Distance
Reduce your render distance if frame rate drops. Since the shader emphasizes distant blocks' appearance, lowering this setting has a noticeable impact on performance. Start at a moderate distance and increase only if your frame rate remains stable.
Disable Unnecessary Features
Check shader options for toggles like depth fog or enhanced distance effects. Disabling optional visual enhancements can recover frame rate without losing the core depth map experience.
Monitor Performance
Use F3 debug screen to watch frame times. If you see stuttering during camera movement or when looking across large distances, reduce intensity or render distance further. The depth map effect should enhance gameplay smoothly—if it causes lag, dial back settings until performance improves.
