Unload a Dimension Without Losing Its Data
Removing Active Dimensions
When you no longer need a dimension active on your server, you can unload it safely. The saved chunk files remain on disk and can be reloaded later.
Steps
1. Open chat and type /dims remove_dimension <dimension>
2. Replace <dimension> with the ID of the world to unload (e.g., old_event_world)
3. Press Enter to execute
4. The dimension is immediately unloaded and removed from the world list
5. All connected players are synced to the updated world list
What Happens
- The dimension becomes inaccessible to players
- All chunk data, player structures, and world files are preserved on disk
- The dimension can be re-added later using
add_dimensionorclone_dimensionwithout data loss - No server restart is required
When to Use
- Temporarily disable a world for maintenance
- Reduce server load by unloading unused dimensions
- Archive a dimension while keeping its data safe for future use
