DimLib Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I create a new dimension on my server?
Use the command `/dims add_dimension ` where newDimensionId is a unique name for your dimension and preset is a template like "minecraft:overworld" or "minecraft:the_nether". The new dimension will be created and immediately available to players with the mod installed.
Can I copy settings from one world to another?
Yes, use `/dims clone_dimension ` to copy the world generator and dimension type from an existing dimension into a new one. This is useful for creating backup worlds or alternate versions with the same generation rules.
What happens to my world files when I remove a dimension?
The dimension is unloaded from the active server list, but all saved chunk files remain on disk. You can reload the dimension later without losing any data by using the add_dimension or clone_dimension commands again.
How do I check what generator a dimension is using?
Run `/dims view_dim_config ` to display the dimension type ID and chunk generator settings for that world in chat.
Do players without the mod see the new dimensions?
Players without DimLib Mod installed cannot access dynamically created dimensions. Only players who have the mod will see the updated world list and be able to join new dimensions.
Will I get the experimental settings warning when loading modified worlds?
No, DimLib Mod automatically hides the experimental settings popup when you load worlds with modified dimension types or generators.
Can I remove a dimension while players are in it?
It is not recommended to remove a dimension while players are actively in it, as this may cause disconnections or data loss. Wait until the dimension is empty before using `/dims remove_dimension`.
Do dimension changes sync in real time to all players?
Yes, if all players on your server have DimLib Mod installed, new dimensions and changes to the world list will sync live without requiring a server restart.
What presets are available for add_dimension?
You can use standard Minecraft dimension presets like "minecraft:overworld", "minecraft:the_nether", and "minecraft:the_end", or any custom dimension type that exists in your server configuration.
Can I use DimLib Mod on a single-player world?
DimLib Mod is designed for server environments where live dimension management is most useful. Single-player support depends on your mod loader setup, but the core commands are intended for multiplayer servers.
