Copy an Existing World's Settings to a New Dimension
Cloning Dimensions
When you want a new dimension with identical generation rules and dimension type as an existing world, use the clone command. This is useful for creating backup worlds or parallel dimensions with matching terrain.
Steps
1. Identify the source dimension you want to copy (e.g., world_template)
2. Decide on a unique ID for the new dimension (e.g., world_copy_1)
3. Open chat and type /dims clone_dimension <templateDimension> <newDimensionID>
4. Replace <templateDimension> with your source dimension's ID
5. Replace <newDimensionID> with your chosen new ID
6. Execute the command
7. The cloned dimension appears in the world list with matching generator and dimension type settings
Important Notes
- Cloning copies settings only, not saved chunks or player data
- The new dimension starts empty; existing structures from the template are not copied
- Both dimensions will generate identically as players explore, since they share the same generator configuration
