How to Make Eggs Hatch Into Chickens Automatically
Set Up the Hatching Spot
Place a hay block where you want eggs to hatch. By default, the mod only lets an egg hatch if it is sitting on a hay block, so this is the key step. Put the hay block somewhere you can easily collect the chicks, such as inside a fenced pen.
Throw eggs onto the hay block, or let a chicken lay them there. The egg must remain on the ground for its full despawn timer (about five minutes) before the hatch check happens. Do not pick the egg back up, or the timer resets.
Understand the Hatch Check
When the egg is about to despawn, the mod rolls the configured hatch chance. If it succeeds, a baby chick spawns in place of the egg. If it fails, the egg simply disappears.
The mod also counts chickens within a radius around the egg. If there are already too many chickens nearby, the egg will not hatch and will despawn normally. Keep your pen population low enough that new eggs can still hatch, or move the hay block to a fresh area.
Practical Tips
- Use a hopper or collection area so chicks do not wander off the hay block.
- Spread multiple hay blocks apart if you want several hatching spots without hitting the nearby-chicken limit.
- If nothing hatches, check that eggs are actually landing on hay and that your chicken count is not maxed out.
