How to Control Chicken Population From Egg Hatching

Use the Nearby-Chicken Limit

The mod counts chickens within a radius around each egg before allowing it to hatch. If the number of chickens nearby is at or above the configured limit, the egg will not hatch. Lowering this limit keeps your population from growing out of control.

Open the config and find the setting for the maximum number of chickens allowed around an egg. Reduce it to a number you are comfortable with, then save and reload.

Combine With the Hatch Chance

You can also lower the hatch probability so that only some eggs produce chicks. A lower chance spreads out hatching over time instead of producing a chick from every egg.

Manage Spacing

Because the limit is based on chickens near the egg, spreading your hatching spots apart gives each spot its own local count. A single crowded pen will hit the limit quickly, while several separated hay blocks can each hatch a few chicks.

Cleanup Routine

  • Collect or cull chicks regularly so the nearby count stays below the limit.
  • Move hatching hay blocks away from large existing flocks.
  • If you want no growth at all, set the hatch chance to zero instead of relying on the limit.

These two settings together give you fine control over how many chickens the mod adds over time.
