Optimize Performance for Underwater Exploration

Reduce Underwater Effect Complexity

Underwater caustics, light rays, and plant rendering can be demanding. Access shader settings and find the Underwater Effects section. Lower the intensity of caustic patterns and light shaft quality if you experience frame drops while diving.

Disable Unnecessary Surface Interactions

The shader prevents underwater plants and bubbles from breaking surface reflections—a visual enhancement that costs performance. If needed, you can reduce the Surface Interaction Detail setting to improve frame rates in densely planted underwater areas.

Adjust Fog and Visibility

Underwater fog distance affects how far you can see. Reducing this improves performance without sacrificing the immersive underwater atmosphere. Find the Underwater Fog Distance slider and lower it if you're exploring deep oceans.

Test in Different Biomes

Underwater performance varies by biome due to plant density and water clarity. Test in kelp forests, coral reefs, and open ocean to identify which areas need optimization. Adjust settings based on your most-visited underwater locations.
