How to Install and Activate the Default HD Sun and Moon Resource Pack

Placing the Pack in Your Resourcepacks Folder

With the pack file already downloaded, open Minecraft and go to Options → Resource Packs → Open Pack Folder. This opens the resourcepacks directory inside your .minecraft folder. Move the pack's .zip file directly into this folder — do not unzip it, since Minecraft reads zipped packs natively. If you extracted it by accident, place the extracted folder in instead, making sure it contains a valid pack.mcmeta file at its root rather than a nested folder.

Enabling It In-Game

Return to the Resource Packs screen and press the arrow on the pack's entry to move it from Available to Selected. The pack only changes the sun and moon textures, so it stacks safely with terrain, GUI, or sound packs — place it above any pack that also edits celestial textures so it wins the conflict. Click Done to apply. No game restart is needed; the change takes effect immediately.

Verifying the Change

Look at the sky during day or night. The sun and moon should now show sharper edges and more surface detail while keeping the vanilla silhouette. If nothing changed, confirm the pack sits in the Selected column and that no other active pack is overriding the same textures. If you play on a server, remember resource packs are client-side — other players will not see your HD sky unless they install it too.
